MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Merry Christmas everybody!  I hope your holiday season (the Yuletide as the Brits say) has been great!  Take some time to reflect on our Savior and the sacrifice He made for us.  Christmas is a time of the year that is special for many reasons, but the most important reason and the cause for all of this is Jesus Christ.

Well, we had an exciting week as always!  One of the highlights was the live nativity!  It turns out they only had 2 wise men so I was promoted from shepherd to King, which was pretty cool.  I also got an upgrade from a baby goat to an alpaca!  It was brilliant!  He looked pretty Rastafarian though.  He had weird alpaca dreads covering his eyes.  Unfortunately I didn't get a really good picture with him but I'll attach what I did get.  The event was pretty big though, we had a little more than 150 people there we think.  Most of them weren't members.  Cool, eh?

On Friday we went to Gloucester to watch the YSA Face-to-Face event from September and that was loads of fun.  We also had a white elephant gift exchange which I totally forgot about so the morning before this happened I was looking around the flat and what did I find?  A textbook that was like 850 pages long detailing the history of Ukraine.  Perfect!  I also put a coloring book with it though so there would be something people actually wanted lol......maybe.  I ended up with a chocolate bar and a sheet of sandpaper.  It was a day of good fun!

Yesterday at church our Branch gave us these massive gift bags with stuff from loads of members.  I am seriously in the best branch!  Our tree is looking a lot more exciting now that we have picked stuff up and the members have given us things.  It's a good Christmas!

Well sorry if I don't get to some emails but we have a pretty busy day and even though it's Christmas it is still also P Day so we can only email today.  Oh well, we always have next week!  I'm so excited to Skype my family!  Talk to you guys soon!

Merry Christmas all!  I hope that everybody has a very special day and that you are able to make some time for the Savior, even if it's just a few minutes.  Love you all!!!

Yo Yo Yo, it's that time of the week again!  ðŸ¤™ðŸ¤™ðŸ¤™

Well, as far as weeks go this was a pretty basic one.  We have been doing loads of finding because all of our gators got baptized.  #blessed.  That's kind of tough because a lot of English  people are salty deep down....and on the surface as well, now that I think about it.  We were door knocking in this town on Saturday and we could see people in their homes through the windows as we approached the door but they would never come answer.  We knocked probably 30-35 doors but only had like 2 or 3 people answer so we went somewhere else.  haha!

I also went to my first multi-zone conference.  It was party time!  I got to see some of my greenie buddies from the MTC and like half my MTC district, which was great.  There were some real legends there!  As part of the conference though each zone did a skit based on the 12 Days of Christmas.  The Merthyr and Cardiff Zones were okay, but then up came Cheltenham which is, of course, the best zone in the missioon.  For our skit we did the first 12 days of my mission.  The idea was to have the first 11 days be total rubbish and then the 12th day had something good happen which comes from D&C 58:4 which basically says that blessings come after trials.  Sounds good, right?  Well the Zone Leaders called on like Monday (the conference was on Thursday) to see if I would do it and then they wrote up a script and stuff but didn't send it to us so Elder Staheli and I had no idea what was going on until like 10 minutes before we were supposed to do it.  I took a picture of another missionary's screen who had the script and I could barely read one of the pages because it was all blurry.  Anyway, we got up there and totally free styled it but it was the best of the skits, of course.

Well hey!  That's about it I think.  This week was pretty basic so nothing too exciting.  All the snow has melted so it's not so Christmasy any more and that's too bad, but that's the way England is!  We do have that live nativity on Wednesday so that'll be party time as well.

Next Monday is Christmas!  Life is exciting!  I also got a sweet Christmas Tree with some sweet ornaments!  Love y'all!  Cheers!

Thanks to everyone who wrote on one of the ornaments on the tree. Love you all!

THERE'S SNOW WAY!!!

Heya!! Oh man, exciting stuff this time around!  Let's get into it!

Well hey, if you couldn't guess by the title, we got snow!!  Woohoooo!  ❄❄❄❄❄  It's pretty cool.    We were talking to people in Monmouth and they said that this is the first time it has snowed in about 4 years!!  I never thought I'd be this excited for snow.  lol.  It snowed a little bit on Friday and then not at all on Saturday but we woke up on Sunday and it was crazy town!  I say crazy town, but keep in mind it doesn't snow here often so when compared to Utah it's nothing.  We had like maybe 2 inches yesterday and that was enough for them to cancel church!  ha ha.  It's been exciting though!

You wanna know what else happened?  Somebody rear ended us!  Don't worry Mom, we are fine, but we weren't expecting that!  The back of the car is a little cracked but other than that nothing seemed wrong.  We later found out that the sensor in the boot was a little off so the car thought it was open and we really had to slam it shut.  So, after a lesson we were putting our stuff away and I shut the boot pretty hard and WAPOW! The license plate went soaring off the car!  Turns out they attach them here with sticky pads, so that's something.  We didn't have anything to attach it back to the car with, so we were going for a solid 6-7 hours with no plate lol.  We had to drive all the way to Hereford to get the stuff we needed, which is the next area over.  We also found out that evening that there was a rubber band in front of the sensor and that's why it wasn't working....

We also got a super dodgy call!  The day after the crash we got a call from the insurance.  I was like yeah, whatever, it's a normal thing to happen after a crash, so I was just chilling there while Elder Staheli was talking to this dude.  Well, he got off the phone and told me it was a weird phone call but it was also his first time with an insurance claim so I just thought it was inexperience.  He then called Elder Veater, our automobile director dude, and was telling him what happened.  Turns out this insurance dude gave Elder Staheli a script for the real insurance call which will be today.  We aren't answering though unless Elder Veater calls and tells us to because it's really weird.  He was telling us to lie about injuries and all sorts of stuff that didn't happen.  Honesty is the way to go though, so of course we aren't saying anything that dude told us to.  It was seriously weird level 9000.

We also put up a Christmas tree which is super cool!  It's super weak though and we didn't have enough lights so the top part of the tree is pretty dark haha.  It's better than nothing though!  Also, our Branch does a live nativity each year and your boy will be a shepherd.  I might even get a sheep (it might be a pygmy goat) to lead in the show which would be pretty big time.

Hey I think that's all!  Keep being your awesome selves and do something good for another person this Christmas season!    #LightTheWorld am I right?  Love y'all!  Cheers!

BAPTISM #2 AYO!!!

Well here we are again!  Exciting stuff my dudes!  An exciting week it has been for sure!  We were able to get through all of the discussions with Crystal so she got baptized on Friday!  Elder Staheli baptized her and I was able to confirm her yesterday in Sacrament Meeting.  It has been incredible seeing her change over the last month and a half.  I wasn't able to see that very much with Ben and Kerry because I got here right before they were baptized, but seeing it with Crystal has been so cool.  The Gospel has made her so much happier!

Richard Hammond lives in our area I guess.  I don't know who that is really, but apparently he's a big deal and Elder Staheli was flipping out about it.  He said that he's the guy from the show Top Gear, but I've never really watched it.  We were at a DA (Dinner Appointment) and this family told us where he lives so we dropped by.  Turns out he lives in a full on flipping castle with a gate and stuff.  So we buzzed in and that didn't work, but there was a number to call on the gate so we called that and his butler answered!  Turns out Hammond is in Switzerland filming a show but he said we can come back in a few weeks when he gets back.  Elder Staheli was feeling pretty good about himself and was telling members about it and one of them told us that he got in a crash and rolled his car and is now in a hospital in Switzerland!  I still don't know who this dude is so I don't really care, but Elder Staheli is acting like he just met the Prophet or something.

Well, I don't think much else happened this week.  Do something cool this week.  Help somebody out!  Do something good! Love you all and hope that everything is great!  Sorry I don't have more pictures Mom!

FIRST TRANSFER DOWN!

Hello! Hello!

An exciting week this was!  It was a lot of missionary stuff that wasn't too interesting, but I'll tell you the fun stuff!

We had a District Thanksgiving which was pretty fun!  Our Thanksgiving we had planned with the Branch President fell though, which was pretty lame, but oh well.  We had a chicken instead of a turkey, and some banana pie because you can't buy that pumpkin stuff here.  It was pretty much a discount Thanksgiving but it was still fun.  We also had a funeral for one of our Zone Leaders because he is dying (going home) at the end of this transfer.  It was a weird thing to witness.

We have a baptism scheduled for Friday but we may have to move it back because Crystal has flaked on our last 2 lessons and we might not have time to teach her everything.  Let's pray it works out!

We met a super solid dude named Phil while tracting this week.  He was actually interested, which like never happens, and we are meeting with him tomorrow so I'll update y'all next week.  Shout out to my dad who is also Phil...Happy Birthday!  And we're baptizing this one for you Dad!

So we were driving and Elder Staheli saw a dead deer on the side of the road and wanted to check it out to see if it had antlers or not so we went to go see.  Well, we got there and somebody had the same idea!  The deer had no head!  It was kinda nasty.

We went to Hereford Cathedral today and it was pretty cool.  It's really big.  They have some books there that are so valuable and old they're chained to the wall and that's pretty hardcore if you ask me.  They had a bunch of king graves and stained glass windows too.

I hope you all have an incredible week!  Go do something cool!

Love,  Elder Lott

FIRST BAPTISMS!!!

Hello all!

The beginning of the week was pretty basic, but once Friday hit it was crazy!  We had a meeting in Birmingham for all the greenies because we are almost half way through training - WOO!  It was fun to see some of my friends from the MTC again!  That evening was Ben and Kerry's baptism!!  We were late because we had to come back from Birmingham and we came back to mayhem! They couldn't figure out how to turn on the warm water for the font so the water was freezing cold.  I thought it would be fine until  I remembered that Kerry is 8 months pregnant and that could have resulted in an early baby!  They figured it out about 10 minutes before the baptism started, but by then the font was practically full.  They emptied it, and it takes about an hour to fill so we had to drag the program out for as long as we could.  It all ended well though, so all is good.  Ben and Kerry are so awesome!  They were confirmed yesterday in Sacrament Meeting, and that was an incredible experience.  The Spirit was so strong.

Today we went to a little model village in Gloucestershire!  It was a 1/9 scale model of the village Burton-on-Water and it was pretty cool!  It even had people in some of the buildings and there was a choir singing in the church.  Cool stuff!

Hope everybody has a brilliant week!  Go do something good for another person!  Love y'all!

THE BOOK OF MORMON CHALLENGE
One of my favorite scriptures is Alma 26:16, and it says,
"Therefore, let us glory in the Lord, yea, we will rejoice, for our joy is full; yea, we will praise our God forever.  Behold, who can glory too much in the Lord?  Yea, who can say too much of his great power, and of his power, and of his long suffering toward the children of men?  Behold, I say until you, I cannot say the smallest part which I feel."
This is one of my favorite verses because of the thanks it gives to God.  He has done so much for us, his love is so immense, and he will always be there for us no matter what.  Just like it says in that verse,  I really "cannot say the smallest part which I feel", because when I think about everything that I have been given and the love that he has for me I am filled with joy so great that words aren't good enough to describe it!  I know God lives and that he cares about each and every one of us!

Dear Everyone,

What a solid week!  I can't really remember too much because this week went super fast, but I'll do my best!

Our Branch President spoke with Elder Staheli and me about possibly doing a Thanksgiving Dinner because we are both American!  He will only let us do it though, if we can find some investigators to come, so we are working hard for it!

One of our investigators, Ben, who is being baptized on Friday, came out to knock doors with us, which is cool!  He even came back out the next day for a potential follow up and we got to teach a lesson.  It was so awesome!

We also had exchanges with our Zone Leaders in Hereford this week.  It was way fun!  We ate at a canoe port on the Wye River and there were a bunch of ducks and seagulls and two swans that came at us while we were praying, which was kind of sketchy.  We were throwing out bread like crazy and the birds were in a frenzy.  It was pretty wild.

That day when we were finding I was with Elder Johnson, who went to Alta, and was assigned to speak Chinese.  Because he speaks Chinese he gets super excited whenever he sees somebody who may be Chinese and he hauls his booty over to them.  Anyway, we were talking to these two people who told us they were from Thailand and they only spoke Thai so we were kind of disappointed, but then they started speaking Chinese to each other.  So Elder Johnson joined in and it was so weird and uncomfortable because they straight up lied to us.  And they they just awkwardly walked away.  It was pretty strange.....

Anyway!  It was a good week!  Hopefully the next is the same!

Love y'all!

Subject: Wales! Halloween! Facebook!

I've officially hit my one month  mark!  How crazy is that!  Sometimes it feels like it's only been a week and other times it feels like it has been 4 months.  But all is well!

Fun Fact about Wales!  In the MTC I was told that there are 3 million people in Wales and 10 million sheep and I was like yeah, right, there's no way.  I totally believe it now though because almost everywhere we go there are tons of sheep and I'm not even that far into the country.  Everywhere we drive there are sheep and sometimes they are just chilling in the middle of the road like it's no big deal.  They're crazy!

This has been a pretty solid week I think, with only a few exciting bits.  Tuesday was of course Halloween, and the night before we carved pumpkins at our dinner appointment with some of our members!  I did a stellar Jack Skellington, and in my humble opinion I think I had the best one.

I'll tell you about some of my investigators!  We have 3 people committed to baptism!  Ben and Kerri, who are married to each other, are scheduled for the 17th and Crystal, the daughter of a recent convert, is scheduled for the 24th!  Ben and Kerri are all stars and if I didn't know they were investigators I'd honestly think they were members already!  There are a couple of concerns with Crystal which I won't go into, but I think it'll all work out!  We have a couple of other potential investigators and a couple of Less Active members to work with.  I'm in a really good area.

I can use Facebook now!  As a missionary!  And it's pretty weird, to be honest.  I had to make a new account because I couldn't remember the password to my old one, so go friend request me!  The name is Zach Lott - I know, surprising! - and if I don't show up put Birmingham into the city category because I'll show up then.  I'll be sharing stellar, super cool, awesome, intriguing, and bodacious stuff about the Church and stuff like that.

Anyway, not much for this week but such is life!  Love y'all and hope your week is top notch!   Cheers!

October 30, 2017

Woohoo I'm in the field now! My area is the Forest of Dean and it is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been in my life. Like seriously it is incredible. I'll send some pictures. This area is also awesome because I'm living in Wales! A little town called Monmouth and the road signs are really weird because the Welsh word is always above the English word and Welsh is a weeeeeird language. It is a little trippy.

Anyway! We left the MTC Tuesday morning and arrived at the mission home around 11. After that we had lunch and met our trainers! Mine is Elder Staheli (pronounced staylee) and he is awesome! He's from Spanish Fork and has only been out for 5 months so he's pretty new too! He's great though. Another bonus to being in the Forest is that we have a car because it's mainly small towns out here and it takes a while to get anywhere. We bump mad hymns on the road.

It's been a pretty solid week I guess but it's all the same to me because I have nothing to compare it to! Somebody let us in to teach while we were knocking doors on my first day-which never happens-I've handed out like 5 Books of Mormon, and we committed somebody to baptism yesterday! Pretty cool hey? We also have 2 people committed to baptism from before I got here.

Funny story! We had district meeting on Thursday and then we went on splits to go door knocking. I was with Elder Johnson, who went to Alta, and we were talking to this one guy at his door but he was standing like 3 feet back from the door, like awkwardly far away. We asked him if he was religious at all/if he read the bible and then he walked to the door, stuck his head out really close to us, and said, "I read the bible......when I had cancer," in the most quiet voice. He then retreated to his house again. We somehow started talking about dogs so he asked us what dog spelled backwards is. It is of course God and he says, "that's why they watch after us." He then told us a story! One day his wife fell down the stairs and his spoodle (a spaniel/poodle mix) was the first to get to her. He then said, "You know what she did? She gave her the kiss of life!" I have absolutely no idea what that is but when we left Elder Johnson and I were so weirded out I don't even know how to describe it.

To answer some of your questions! Elder Staheli is a good guy and i really like him.  I only serve in one branch but it really should be a ward. We had 129 people there yesterday. I am adjusted to the time, I was after about 1.5 weeks. England is pretty different than America. The whole overall appearance is very old, the roads are tiny with no center lanes, 90% of cars are hatchback, houses are waaay smaller, the people look different, they dress differently, different stores, just about anything you can think of! Despite all that though it does bear a slight resemblance to home if you look for it. It's kind of hard to describe. It is really cool though! Country roads are sided by massive hedges and are very curvy some of them are 2 way but barely have enough room for one car. For some reason they all have a speed limit of 60 mph which would flip any normal car. Nobody drives to the speed limit anywhere because the roads are so tight. I'm pretty used to being on the opposite side of the road but sometimes it's still a little weird. I can mostly understand people but sometimes they talk too fast or say a word that I have no idea what it means. All is well though!

I also saw my first castle! Grosmont castle which is way out in the middle of nowhere. According to Elder Staheli it was pretty weak as far as castles go but I thought it was pretty cool.

Exciting stuff! More exciting stuff to come! Apparently a cathedral that they shot a good chunk of Harry Potter at is in my area so hopefully we go to that! There are also 10 castles! Crazy!

Love y'all! Cheers!

I get to email today because it's possible that I will not be able to on Tuesday!

This wasn't a very eventful week as it has been almost completely made up of classes. But there were a few fun things! On Tuesday night we had Elder Philips, one of the area seventies for Europe, here for a devotional. He got way distracted and took forever but it was pretty good. He spoke about testimonies.

On Thursday we went on a church history tour and we got to see some of the important places in the development of the church in England. We saw a house Heber C. Kimball stayed while in England, a town square where people listened to the early missionaries, the Ribble River where the first English converts were baptized, we visited where Gordon B. Hinckley lived when he got his famous "forget yourself and go to work" letter, and some old church where the missionaries were allowed to preach. It was pretty cool and it was so nice to get out of the MTC! I finally got to see some of England!

We leave the MTC  for Birmingham on a bus Tuesday morning @ 7 so I'll be there soon!

Love,  Elder Lott

Hello everyone! This week has been an absolute blur! So finding stuff out about the outside world is like totally impossible right now and if we have any question on a current event we need to ask our teachers to google it for us. Turns out we are near the tail end of Hurricane Ophelia-I think that's what it's named-which is currently over Ireland I'm pretty sure. This is the closest I have ever been to a hurricane! I also got sick this week and totally lost my voice. It was like super deep and somebody told my companion that I was nice to listen to. After that though I sounded pretty bad. I'm mostly over it now though.

On Friday we all went to Piccadilly Square Manchester for a day of proselyting! What an experience that was! The very first person I spoke to was an old man who looked pretty nice. Old people are usually nice right? Well it turns out they sometimes aren't and this old man was not very nice. As soon as he saw me walking up to him he started talking about how he didn't want to speak with me he began to walk away. He then turned, pointed at my name tag, and said, "That's a load of rubbish!" He then proceeded to tell me that God isn't real because if I were to pass out in the middle of the street right then, God wouldn't appear to take me to the hospital. It wasn't the most sound argument I've ever heard but he seemed to believe it so I must be missing something. If you figure it out let me know! That pretty much sums up the rest of the day though. I don't think I saw a single smile on anybody's face other than the other missionaries that were there. Must be the rain or something.

In happier news, I joined the MTC choir! How's that for weird? I mainly joined because of how boring and repetitive the day is here but it ended up being an awesome time and we actually sound pretty good! One might even say angelic if they were understating our talent. Tonight we are singing Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing for one of the Area Seventies, Elder Philips, as he'll be here for a devotional tonight. Speaking of choirs and MTC devotionals, we watched a recording of the devotional Elder Christofferson gave in Provo this week and I saw Elder Connor Morris singing in the choir there! What a guy!

I think that is all this week! It was a good time! I'm unsure if I'll be able to email next week as I'll be heading out to Birmingham on P-Day. Wish me luck! Love y'all!

October 10, 2017

Woohoo what a week! Before I forget I am going to mention I can read emails whenever I want but can only reply on P Day so email whenever you want to. It has been super long but it has also been super good! The MTC has been a party so far and all the missionaries are so great. Everybody has bonded really well and it is honestly like a giant scout camp right now lol. The flights went really well and I had a couple other missionaries on both of them which was very nice because I was able to get to know some people right off the bat. Because we had time to kill after our flight to Atlanta, we decided to walk to the gate for our next flight but it turns out the Atlanta airport is actually massive and we had to go from the A gates to the F gates and lucky us that is the entire length of the airport! It seriously took us a solid 20 minutes to get there and we were walking on the moving sidewalks so we were going super fast. Should have taken the tram I guess. The flight to Manchester was around 7.5 hours long and I slept for maybe a combined 45 minutes so it was pretty long but all is well! When we got to Manchester we had another cross airport trek that was about the same distance but we got to do it with our bags this time! We then had a 45 minute bus ride to the MTC. By then it was like 9 in the morning here so we had a full day ahead of us! By the end of Wednesday I had been awake for around 32 hours and I started to fall asleep as soon as I sat down.

The day I got here the MTC was completely empty so all the missionaries here arrived the same day as me and that has been pretty fun. We have kids from Wales, Italy, England, Scotland, South Africa, Australia, Germany, and the Netherlands. I am probably missing a few as well. One of the flights from Utah got stuck in Chicago overnight so I did not have a companion for the first day. My companion is Elder Kelleher and he is from Herriman! A good guy for sure! In my room we also have Elder Johnson and Elder Odle. Elder Johnson has so much energy and enthusiasm it is exhausting to be honest. The best way to describe it is for me to tell you that he was a theater kid in high school.

I was also made the district leader so that is something! It is really easy and all I do is tell people to pray and lead the music when we start class. I also need to go to leadership meetings on Sunday mornings. In my district I have the 3 other Elders in my room along with Elders Wheeler, Thacker, Stock, who are all from Utah, and Elder Palmer who is from Nashville. We also have two sisters, Sister Takairangi, who is from the Cook Islands, and Sister Nelson, who is from Utah as well.

Wow there is so much to say! We went to the temple today which was cool. It was nice to see a new temple as I had only gone to the Draper temple before. Driving on the opposite side of the road is spooky and all the Americans were screaming in  the van because we thought we were going to crash. The Europeans are hilarious, especially the kid from Scotland and the kid from the Netherlands. Almost all the Europeans know more than one language and one kid is even learning his 5th. He knows English, French, Spanish, and French and is learning Greek. He is in the MTC for 9 weeks. The Europeans who speak English as a second language say things in such a different way and it is so much fun listening to them speak.

Funny Story! One day as we were getting the stuff for sports, Elder Hogg, the Scottish guy, had a volleyball and Elder Beech, the South African, asked him, "Is that a netball?" Because of his accent Elder Hogg and I both thought that he said, "Is that a nipple?" and we both started staring at his shirt. After we realized what Elder Beech actually said we started laughing so hard it was difficult to breath! I find it twice as funny though because Elder Hogg says nipple like, "nepple," because of his accent. Something happens almost everyday that makes me laugh to the point of my face hurting. It is a constant party! Elder Hogg is like a walking quote machine though. Almost everything he says sticks around for like 3 days.

We also have been teaching our investigator Nathan, who is of course just one of our teachers, and it has gone well! It is a little weird the first few times but I think I have gotten a pretty good idea of how things go. I am just super relieved that I do not need to do it in another language.

Sunday was probably the most spiritual day of my whole life. I almost cried like 4 times. We had a testimony meeting that was incredible. It is awesome hearing the stories of all the missionaries who are from Europe because many of them are converts of only one or two years. We also had a giant FHE that night in which we watched an MTC devotional Elder Holland gave in 2009 which was incredibly powerful. He is an incredible man and speaker. We then watched a presentation one of the seventy gave to the new mission presidents and there were 2 videos shown in that which made I think everybody cry. To finish it off we sang a couple hymns and part of the way through a sister slammed her hymn book shut and started crying.

Well a lot of stuff! This was super long! Talk to you all next week!

Zach's First Letter from England

October 4, 2017

Hey everybody! I have made it safely to the England MTC! All is well, the flights went smoothly, and here we are! To be honest it still doesn't feel like I'm in England but judging by how everybody is driving on the wrong side of the road and it's really cloudy and everybody I speak to has a fancy voice I guess that I am? Anyway, I need to go as this is just a short email they're letting us write to let you know I've arrived safely! Love you all!

P.S. My P-Days are on Tuesdays while I'm in the MTC

FINALE

Hello Everybody! Sorry I've been absolute rubbish at sending out weekly emails this last transfer.  It's been a really good 6 week...
